The panel of P.R. speakers enlightened my ideas of what it means to be a news writer in a professional setting and how ideas of publishing, media interaction, and interacting with the press can vary in different careers. What resonated with me during the panel was the journalistic integrity all the guests held to their profession and morals they exhibited. I received a text moments after the panel about the SLU student that was found with gunshot wounds by the CVS on campus from my roommate asking if I was alright. After, I realized the integrity Nancy Solomon had as composed, honest professional about the P.R. industry and about the respect you have to have to represent an organization.
Mr. Moore mentioned, “You wear many different hats as a P.R. rep. One of them is thinking like a reporter and a journalist.” And it was an honest representation from Mrs. Solomon about the professional "hat" she was wearing during the panel. My pre-question for Mr. Moore asked about his ability to highlight St. Louis locals in a positive light (as he did at the STL Post-Dispatch) and he answered my question just by speaking positively about his journalistic work and how he represents County Executive Sam Page, now. Mr. Moore described that you cannot just be reactive when it comes to the news, you have to put your foot in the door and be first in line to be successful and uphold your enterprise status as a reporter. I admired this and I hope to accomplish the same level of integrity as a journalist. This resonated with my values and I was pleased to hear accomplished individuals align with the same morals when it comes to communications.
